Car Bomb
Nov 8Divergent promotions presents by arrangement with Atonal Agency  Car Bomb  Originally formed on Long Island, New York in 2000, Car Bomb is a band whose style is marked by a highly experimental and extremely aggressive approach to metal. Their unpredictable blend of evolving polyrhythms, shifting tempos, syncopated down-tuned guitars, jazz-influenced drumming, harmonically deconstructive riffing, and dynamic vocals create a sound that is pulverizingly heavy and intensely disorienting. They create music that is fluid and ever changing, and are not afraid of veering off on bold melodic tangents. This unique sound combined with a strong DIY work ethic and a continuously growing fan base has earned them the opportunity to tour with larger acts in the genre. Car Bomb released their debut album Centralia on Relapse Records in 2007, and supported the record on US tours with High on Fire in 2008 and Gojira in 2009. They self-released their second album w^w^^w^w (pronounced “w-click-w” or “the waveform album”) in 2012. It featured guest vocals by Joseph Duplantier of Gojira, whom they’d again tour with later that year. In 2014, Car Bomb was invited to tour Europe for the first time, opening up for Meshuggah on their 25 th anniversary tour. Car Bomb released their third album Meta in the fall of 2016, which again feature Joseph Duplantier who this time also shared a co-production credit with Greg Kubacki. The album also features Frank Mullen of Suffocation and was mixed by Josh Wilbur (Korn, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Parkway Drive). The band kicked off the release with shows supporting Gojira and Tesseract as well as opening for The Dillinger Escape Plan on their farewell US tour. In early 2017, Car Bomb headed back to Europe/UK opening up for Gojira. The band then headlined their own European tour in September before returning to the US in October to support Animals as Leaders and Periphery.  The band is currently headquartered at Silvercord Studios in Brooklyn, New York.

FIRESTATIONS + support
Nov 1Firestations – International Dust ‘International Dust’ is the new album from London art-pop band Firestations, and it marks a return to their full five-piece band format after a journey into more stripped back alt-folk territory on last year’s ‘Many White Horses’.  The nine tracks on the album (out in October on Lost Map Records), encompass an eclectic and intuitive mix of dream-pop, alt-country and hypnotic cyclical numbers, and were shaped collectively by the whole band through various twists and turns at rehearsal sessions during 2024. It was recorded live in the room at Otterhead Studios in early 2025 (engineered by Ellis Powell-Bevan and Oscar Ball), before being mixed and mastered by James Trevascus (Invada, Portishead, PJ Harvey, Young Fathers). This longer gestation period, combined with having someone outside the band on production duties, has resulted in a more expansive and immersive listen, with room for everything to find its place.  The musical arrangements this time round also contribute to the immersive feel by exploring the depth of musicianship in the band, taking Firestations to previously uncharted territory. The improvised flute and viola on album opener ‘Hidden Face’ add some playful chaos and menace to proceedings, while on ‘Beginners’ and ‘Sleeping on the Sidelines’ the piano is woven into the mix, giving the tracks a sense of fragility and world-weariness. More surprisingly perhaps, Mike also adds some jazz adjacent tenor saxophone at the end of ‘International Dust’. The album title itself has to do with the inevitable passing of time and the absurdity of human constructs, created as if permanence was a thing, combined with a questioning of boundaries both imagined and real (as well as being a reference to Silver Jew’s ‘American Water’: try new INTERNATIONAL DUST ™!).  Overall, this collection is a significant step up for a consistently creative band who have re-invented themselves once again on this album – a satisfying listen at surface level, with deeper, thought-provoking foundations lurking beneath.

HMRC + Vice Killer
Oct 29HMRC announce their debut album - with an exclusive first live preentation here at our place. Tyneside’s fierce political punk outift, HMRC, have announced a headline album launch show here at Engine Room North Shields on Wednesday, 29th October, celebrating the release of their upcoming studio album, Cost of Living. Written by lyricist, British citizen, and self-described "member of the proletariat" Lloyd Holmes, Cost of Living is a searing document of modern British societal decay, housing collapse, and class warfare. The October show will mark the band's first official live presentation of the new album in its entirety.  Attendees at the Engine Rooms show will experience the band's expanded live setup following the addition of Lewis Hewitt on guitar. Hewitt’s entry introduces a dense, muscular wall of guitar sound to the band’s driving rhythm section, creating an intense, wall-of-sound backdrop for Holmes' razor-sharp spoken-word and vocal delivery.  The launch event will bring the uncompromising social commentary of Cost of Living directly to the stage:   The Housing Crisis & Structural Decay: Tracks like "Property Ladder" and "Brownsite Slum" unpack the long-term fallout of Thatcher’s Right to Buy scheme and the physical, health-damaging impact of damp, neglected housing.    Lloyd Holmes has written a small essay delving deeper into the political themes.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/10pLR9J8jfaftZ_cbWWPAufqXuo_25LIb/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=115907206758212743125&rtpof=true&sd=true Superb support from VICE KILLER: Joining HMRC for this momentous hometown showcase are Vice Killer, a micro-focused political band that deeply embodies the spirit of small-town Northern communities. Hailing from County Durham, Vice Killer give voice to the working people of former industrial heartlands, weaving raw social realism and regional heritage from pit histories to post-industrial struggles into a captivating alternative indie sound. Their inclusion creates a powerful double-bill rooted firmly in Northern working-class solidarity, truth-telling, and political commentary.
