James Walsh & Ben Ottewell at An Seòmar
Sep 26Experience an unforgettable night as two of the best voices of the past thirty years unite for a special double bill. James Walsh of Starsailor and Ben Ottewell of Gomez will share the stage for a powerful evening of live music. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see these iconic artists perform side by side. Ben Ottewell is a British musician best known as the gravelly-voiced frontman of the indie rock band Gomez. Born on June 23, 1976, in Chesterfield, England, Ottewell began his musical journey at a young age, inspired by his father's eclectic record collection. In 1996, he co-founded Gomez with Ian Ball, Tom Gray, Paul Blackburn, and Olly Peacock while studying at university in Sheffield. Gomez quickly gained attention with their debut album, "Bring It On," released in 1998, which won the Mercury Music Prize. Ottewell's distinctive vocals and songwriting contributed to the band's unique sound, characterized by a blend of blues, folk, and rock elements. The band went on to release several critically acclaimed albums, including "Liquid Skin" (1999) and "In Our Gun" (2002). Throughout Gomez's career, Ottewell's soulful voice and introspective lyrics resonated with fans, earning him a dedicated following. His solo career saw him exploring a more stripped-down acoustic sound, showcasing his raw talent and emotive storytelling. In 2011, Ottewell released his debut solo album, "Shapes & Shadows," followed by "Rattlebag" in 2014 and ‘A Man Apart’ in 2017   With a career spanning over two decades, Ben Ottewell continues to captivate audiences with his powerful performances and evocative songwriting, cementing his legacy as one of the most distinctive voices in British rock music. James Walsh Starsailor frontman and solo artist – first found success as the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist with multi-platinum indie- rock band Starsailor. While known for iconic hits like Good Souls and Alcoholic, James has also carved out a powerful solo career, releasing acclaimed albums including Turning Point (2014), Tiger on the Bridge(2019), and Small Illusions (2021). James has a prolific back catalogue, and his latest EP Renewal offers the trademarks of James’ all-encompassing signature sound – beautifully-crafted songs, tender balladry, gorgeous melodies and candid lyricism which transports the listener into another dimension thanks to his captivating and endearing delivery. Whether performing solo or with a band, James Walsh brings raw emotion and timeless songs to life with powerful, intimate live shows. From Starsailor hits to heartfelt solo tracks – every performance is unforgettable.

Andrew Ryan: Honest Capacity Tour 2026
Sep 23 Off the back of a total sell-out tour in 2024, Andrew Ryan is back with a brand-new show. Everyone’s favourite Cork in the North returns in good faith and in an honest capacity with what promises to be his biggest and most hilarious show to date.  On the face of it Andrew is utterly delighted with himself these days; he’s happy, confident, can drive a golf ball 300 yards and is excited for the future as a newlywed. Barely touch that surface and the reality is he cannot get out of his own way and continues to make utterly bewildering decisions with hilarious consequences. Join him for his new show with tales of pet ownership, constant inability to read a room, and his unrelenting frustration and annoyance with the world around him. Everything is fine, until it’s not! Host of the Q Radio Breakfast Show and Star of The Two Jonnies Late Night Lock In (RTE), The Blame Game (BBC), Comedy Central Live, along with hit appearances on some of the biggest comedy podcasts in the UK and Ireland. He is a frequent viral hit with over 50 million views amassed across social media.   “Charming, Hilarious with some really powerful thinking underneath” The Metro “Well paced, well written, delivers plenty of laughs” The Mirror “Ferociously intelligent, Ryan is a great writer. Charming, hilarious and accessible with some really powerful thinking underneath it all.” The Skinny   STRICTLY 16+ Likely to be swearing and adult content Do not admit children younger than this even if accompanied with an adult
Damien O'Kane & Ron Block
Oct 19An Seòmar welcomes two outstanding names in folk and bluegrass for a special night of world-class live music. Damien O’Kane is a celebrated Northern Irish musician known for his warm vocals, masterful banjo playing, and fresh take on traditional folk music. With a career spanning acclaimed solo releases and performances alongside artists like Kate Rusby, Damien blends tradition with innovation—bringing new life to classic songs. Joining him is Ron Block, Grammy-winning musician and long-time member of Alison Krauss & Union Station, renowned for his exceptional banjo and guitar work. Together, they create a captivating live show—blending Irish folk and Appalachian bluegrass with skill, soul, and storytelling. This is a rare chance to experience two masters of their craft in an intimate setting.  This October, two of the most influential banjo players in modern acoustic music unite for a landmark tour across the UK and Ireland. The Banjo Besties Tour brings together Damien O’Kane and Ron Block with their band — artists whose work has redefined the possibilities of the banjo within their respective traditions. Melding bluegrass and Irish traditions, and Americana, this is a collaboration that pushes boundaries while honouring deep musical heritage. Expect exhilarating musicianship, intricate interplay, and a live performance that is as emotionally powerful as it is technically stunning. Both Damien and Ron are not only masters of their instruments, but also exceptional vocalists — each bringing a distinctive voice shaped by their own rich traditions. From soaring harmonies to intimate, heartfelt delivery, their singing adds a powerful new dimension to an already compelling musical partnership. Damien O’Kane’s ground-breaking approach to Irish folk and traditional music and of course his leading role with Kate Rusby and her band meets Ron Block’s unmistakable sound — honed through decades at the forefront of American bluegrass, including his work with Alison Krauss & Union Station. Together, they create something truly innovative: a seamless blend of styles that feels both timeless and strikingly new. NOT duelling banjos, much more co-operating banjos! Having already captivated audiences at many venues and some of the UK’s most prestigious festivals — including Celtic Connections, HebCelt and Cambridge Folk Festival — the band brings a proven track record of unforgettable live performances to this highly anticipated tour. Supported by a stellar band of world-class musicians, the Banjo Brothers Tour is more than a concert — it’s a bold and inspiring celebration of creativity, collaboration, musical excellence and craic. Whether you’re a devoted fan of roots music or discovering it for the first time, this is a rare opportunity to witness two pioneers sharing one stage. ‘Two of the greatest exponents of the banjo, blending traditions with a truly distinctive voice.’ – The Irish World ‘Exquisite musicianship’ – Ralph McTell “Excellent, deeply musical, and refreshingly original — a meeting of traditions that feels truly new.” - The Irish Echo Ages 18+ Please note that this is a standing gig - if you acquire accessible seating please reserve it via our website. https://www.anseomar.com/accessibility
Shooglenifty
Oct 11“30 years together and still one of the most exciting bands on the scene” – Billy Rough, Folk Radio UK “Shooglenifty, self-styled as “Acid Croft”, have the musical wanderlust as well as the rocking electric bottom end to summon their audience to a world ceilidh. ****” – Fiona Shepherd, The Scotsman Shooglenifty was formed in 1990 by musicians from the Scottish Highlands, Orkney and Edinburgh. Its bright spark was the idea of fusing traditional and traditional-sounding melodies with the beats and basslines of a mixed bag of more contemporary influences. As happy playing a small highland village hall as they are on an outdoor festival stage playing to tens of thousands, the Shoogles (as they’re known to their fans) have promoted Scottish music all over the world for three decades. In a career spanning many firsts – the first band to incite a stage invasion at the Sydney Opera House, the first UK band to play in Cuba, and the first Scots to perform in the Borneo Rainforest – Shooglenifty blazed a trail that many other top Scottish traditional bands have followed. But they are still the original and best. They will get you on your feet with their electric new tunes and a full-on set of old favourites. Shooglenifty reached the ripe old age of 30 in 2020. Hopes that they would finally settle down to the quiet life were dashed when they accepted an invitation to start the year in style by performing at midnight for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay. The band played gigs in the north of Scotland in February 2020 before all dates for the rest of the year were cancelled, postponed or put on hold due to the Coronvirus pandemic. Since emerging from the pandemic in 2022, the band have consolidated their amazing new lineup over a headline Scottish tour, two tours of Canada, and dozens of festival and concert appearances across the UK and Europe. Joining the funky percussion and emotive Gaelic and English vocals of Kaela Rowan, Shooglenifty’s #10 frontline features the virtuosic skills of Eilidh Shaw (The Poozies) on fiddle and Ciarán Ryan (Dallahan / Ciarán Ryan Band) on banjo and mandolin. Adding to this heady mix is the phenomenal bass and hair of Euan McLaughlin (Valtos / Ann Dansa Dub), who joins founding members James Mackintosh (drums) and the inimitable Malcolm Crosbie (guitar) in the rhythm section. What could possibly go wrong? The band are currently recording their 10th studio album and are excited to celebrate their 35th year with some of their favourite gigs and festivals after releasing the magic early in 2026.See our Spotify Playlist - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6HxSmAD1weHXP9eVupRO8j?si=5El0dJWVQICHUS1386MuVQ
